Beauty and Her Beast
Beauty and the Beast told through Haiku. Rated: G

Beauty, such a face

to entrance  her whole village

winning hearts of all

wealthy merchant’s love

all a father can give her

except for a rose

trip across the land

a single gift desired

only one small bud

rage at his taking

the merchant barters his child

and the Beast agrees

remorse is dealt with

she can better survive there

than he ever could

a lie to leave him

with his money and his shame

she is his no more

greeted by the Beast

Beauty can only stare, so

afraid of his face

beady little eyes

and long, shaggy brown hair

a mouth full of teeth

but as he stood there

staring down at her sweet face

his cold heart was moved

as time passes and

as Beauty grows to know him

she finds he is kind

unfortunately

never before has she been

away from her home

homesick and longing

she asks for a short visit

to see her father

the Beast is first shocked

he can’t believe that she asked

then laughs in her face

he begins to speak

about what had transpired

between the two men

her loving father

the merchant she left behind

seems loving no more

from another’s mouth

she learns of his deception

and she runs away

lost in the forest

alone as never before

the Beast pursues her

afraid of shadows

she falls into the Beast’s arms

asking for comfort

giving this to her

she sees her place is with him

and admits her love

in a flash of light

so bright it blinded them both

the Beast is transformed

Beauty only stares

astonishment fills her face

her Beast is now changed

his blue eyes are wide

brown hair only on his head

and a perfect smile

a terrible spell

that Beauty has now broken

with her words of love

he asks for her hand

something she readily gives

and so ends the tale
